We, the undersigned, call on Florida insurance companies and the Florida Department of Insurance Regulation to end the discriminatory practice of using credit scores and zip codes to determine car insurance rates.

Why This Matters:

1. Unfair Discrimination: Using credit scores and zip codes to set car insurance premiums unfairly penalizes individuals based on factors that have no direct correlation with their driving ability or accident risk. Good drivers with low credit scores or living in certain areas face unjustly high premiums.

2. Economic Inequality: This practice exacerbates economic inequality. Lower-income individuals, who may have lower credit scores and live in areas with higher premiums, are disproportionately affected. This creates a cycle where the cost of insurance further burdens those who can least afford it.

3. Focus on Driving History: Car insurance rates should be based on driving history, including factors such as accidents, traffic violations, and driving experience. These are direct indicators of a driver's risk and should be the primary determinants of insurance costs.

• Eliminate the use of credit scores in determining car insurance premiums.

• Stop using zip codes as a factor in setting insurance rates.
